(Victorville) – Online registration is now open for the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District’s 2015 Electric Lawn Mower Exchange Event, which provides High Desert residents with the opportunity to scrap their old, gas-powered lawn mower and purchase an emission-free, cordless electric model, starting at only $99. Registrations are being accepted at www.TheGreenstationProducts.com/mdaqmd.html. Visually-impaired residents or those without Internet access may also register by calling 1-866-646-4652.
Only pre-registered residents may bring their operable, gasoline-powered lawn mower – emptied of all gas and oil – to the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville on Saturday, April 18 and exchange it for one of two Greenstation lawn mower models: a 20” cutting width mower with a 24-volt battery for $99 (regular price is $425) or a 19” self-propelled mower with a 24- volt battery for $139 (regular price: $469). One lawn mower per household will be exchanged during the event, which runs between the hours of 8:00AM and 12:00 Noon. Unregistered mowers will not be accepted.
According to MDAQMD Executive Director Eldon Heaston, “Lawn mowers and other gasoline powered lawn care equipment are the nation’s leading source of off-road emissions; one gas mower can pollute as much as 40 newer-model cars.” Heaston adds that although gas-powered mowers being sold today are 90% cleaner than those sold ten years ago, “Only electric mowers produce zero-emissions.”
